Jane Holbrook

Biography

Jane is dedicated to making Stonehurst (and the world as a whole) a more colourful place.

Jane’s training in biology, art and graphic design have all contributed to the way she sese the world and are integral to the images she creates. She has always had a strong drive to create art with paint, ink, clay and fabric, but it is the technical and experimental aspects of printmaking that keep Jane coming back to linocut printing. Her studio is her laboratory where she tries out colours, textures and printing techniques. Jane is addicted to colour and uses it to express light and atmosphere.

Jane’s subjects are diverse; animals and plants, the sea and buildings all make an appearance in her linocut prints and cards. The unifying characteristic, and something she strives for, is a bright sense of calm and, sometimes, whimsy.

Jane’s work can be found at Teichert Gallery and Atlantic News in Halifax, and the Lunenburg Art Gallery and Block Shop Books in Lunenburg.
