Let’s start with the obvious.

What’s the meaning of the word Shunpike?

Shunpiking is a term that dates back to the mid-1800s. The word Shunpike is a blend of the verb shun and the noun (turn)pike.  You are shunning the turnpike if you avoid toll roads.

Today however, Shunpiking simply means to avoid major highways -- regardless of tolls.

Bottomline, if you prefer scenic backroads over highways, you’re a Shunpiker!

Our vision is twofold. The first is to create an annual event where families and friends can connect while admiring the creative skills and artistic talents of our South Shore community. The second is to showcase the work of our creative collective.

Shunpike organizers are super happy with the success of our inaugural event in 2024! Our data suggests that at its peek, approximately 200 visitors were visiting one of our artists. If you’d like to be a part of the planning committee for 2025, send us an email!

Cheers!
